Stepping Outdoors are delighted to be working in partnership with Canoe Experience Sweden for 2018.
Canoe Experience Sweden have many years experience having run Byns Camping and providing an outfitters service for paddlers. We have found their service and equipment to be second to none.
Our Guided tour dates for 2018 have yet to be confirmed.
Our trips are for 6 days canoe camping trip, there are aimed at the intermediate paddler. This trip will be wild camping and will involve several land portages. This trip is ideal for those who already canoe or kayak but who would like to experience the freedom of traveling by canoe.
The canoe tour will be in the Svartälven area of Värmland, an area well known for its many paddling trails and beautiful nature. It has a wide range of wildlife though some animals can be elusive. Bear, wolf, lynx all roam the area but offer no danger to man, you may be lucky and spot a glimpse or find tracks by the waterside. A little easier to see are elk, the world’s largest member of the deer family. You’ll certainly see where beaver have been, there are lots in the area with lodges being clearly visible. For bird watching fans there’s numerous species around, at least 5 different woodpeckers, various owls, lots of water birds including goldeneye and divers. European cranes nest in the area and at 1.4 meters tall they are often seen and heard. Osprey are also frequently observed fishing.
The paddling is a combination of gentle river and lakes. We check weather and water levels before making the final decision on location. Depending on the exact route chosen, there may well be a number of land transports linking sections of river and lakes however canoe trolleys make life much easier.
A reasonable level of fitness is expected. Nick (your guide) will help and advise on paddling technique and ensure you get the best from your adventure, you will be wild camping each night.
The tour cost includes all canoe and camping equipment and services of tour guides (prices will be confirmed by late November 2016). Food is not included, time is made for pre-tour shopping at a local supermarket. Guests prepare their own food during the tour.
